This game can be addictive and it helps to keep your mind on the game, instead of lighting one up. Give thought to changing your routine. Instead of having a cigarette during a break or after work, take a 10 minute walk. Walking is refreshing and helps a great deal when wanting to break a habit like smoking.

Also, instead of having coffee in the morning with breakfast, try having a cup of decaf. Having a cup of decaf will help take away some of the anxiety and nervousness that can come from caffeine. Having a healthy snack such as nuts, gum or lollipops instead of smoking can also lean you away from smoking.

One way to stop smoking that many have tried—some successfully and others not—is by stopping “cold turkey.” Some who were successful with this plan did so because they were determined to quit, were frightened of the health consequences if they didn’t or were told to quit by their doctor, spouse or family. Practicing relaxation techniques is another method that has helped many to stop smoking. Deep breathing exercises, hypnosis and massages are effective for some because these exercises relaxes the mind and body.
